Yancheng, a city that has grown up on wetlands, is located on the northern wing of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, on the coast of the Yellow Sea in the central part of eastern China. It lies in a transitional zone between the northern subtropical and warm temperate climates. The city's terrain is flat, with most areas having an elevation of less than 5 meters. The eastern coastal wetlands are vast, the central river network wetlands are scattered like a chessboard, and the western lake and marsh wetlands are expansive. It boasts the largest muddy intertidal zone wetland on the western coast of the Pacific Ocean. Yancheng is known as the "Oriental Wetland Capital."
