The 2023 Chinese New Year celebrations in Rotterdam kick off with an exhibition on the Year of the Rabbit at Markthal. As with last year's 'Year of the Tiger' installation, the China Cultural Centre in The Hague, together with the Rotterdam Chinese New Year Celebration Association (RCNY), invited local artists to decorate the Chinese zodiac with paintings. Have you already seen these two unique rabbit installations? This year, one of the rabbits is painted by artist Nina Valkhoff and the other by artist Tawan. From now until 5 February you can view these two special rabbit installations at the entrance of Markthal, and from 6 February they will be on display at the Timmerhuis for two weeks. Afterwards, they will come to the China Cultural Centre in The Hague as part of our permanent collection.
On 28 January, the Rotterdam Chinese New Year Celebration Association (RCNY) held a large scale Chinese New Year celebration in Rotterdam's Chinatown. The event included dragon and lion dances, a New Year market, a guzheng performance and traditional Chinese singing and dancing, and the Chinese Cultural Centre in The Hague also supported the celebration.
