On 21 June 2026, the summer solstice, the Carlton Ambassador Hotel in The Hague was transformed into a sea of music. The World Music Day cultural event, jointly organized by Alliance Française de La Haye and the China Cultural Center in The Hague, was held with great success. Nearly 300 audience members from diverse cultural backgrounds gathered to celebrate this musical occasion amid the rhythms of multicultural exchange. Four carefully curated performances presented by the China Cultural Center in The Hague became one of the highlights of the event, adding a vivid touch of Eastern beauty to this international cultural celebration.
The atmosphere was lively, with frequent interaction between performers and the audience. The dance South of the Colorful Clouds, presented by the China Cultural Center in The Hague, vividly portrayed the cultural charm of the Dai ethnic group against the backdrop of a classic Chinese melody. Through graceful movements, the performers depicted Dai girls playing by the riverside and looking forward to a happy life, bringing the ethnic customs and natural beauty of China’s southwestern frontier to Dutch audiences, as if transporting them to the poetic land south of the colorful clouds.
The dance March of the Elephant King showcased the strength and spirit of Chinese classical dance. Set to powerful and majestic music, the performers’ fluid classical dance movements conveyed a grand sense of momentum. The strength and gentleness symbolized by the “Elephant King” intertwined on stage, allowing the audience to deeply appreciate the profound heritage and unique charm of traditional Chinese culture. Songs such as About in Winter also resonated strongly with the audience, with applause and cheers rising throughout the venue and pushing the atmosphere to one climax after another.
This World Music Day event marked another collaboration between the China Cultural Center in The Hague and Alliance Française de La Haye, following their successful first partnership in April this year on a Chinese gongbi painting exhibition. Guided by the shared belief that culture can promote mutual understanding and people-to-people connection, the two institutions achieved platform sharing, mutual support, and in-depth cooperation. Through approaches closer to the public, more diverse artistic forms, and more dynamic content, the two organizations promoted Chinese and French cultures at close range, enabling audiences from different backgrounds to deepen their understanding and appreciation of each other’s civilizations through artistic resonance.
The China Cultural Center in The Hague will continue to deepen cooperation with other cultural institutions and jointly promote dialogue and mutual learning among diverse cultures.
