China Cultural Center Den Haag launched its "Happy Chinese New Year" festivities in Rotterdam’s Chinatown, in partnership with Rotterdam Chinese New Year foundation, transforming West-Kruiskade into a vibrant cultural hub to mark the Year of the Snake. The celebration featured two main attractions: a hand-painted fan workshop aboard a vintage tram and a 12 Zodiac-themed paper-cut art exhibition.
On 8 Feb, a retro tram stationed in Chinatown, hosted a calligraphy and painting workshop where participants crafted traditional ink-wash paper fans adorned with motifs like bamboo and plum blossoms. The tram doubled as a mobile cultural station, drawing crowds eager to engage with the hands-on activity.
Meanwhile, the Rotterdam landmark, Markthal showcased a series of 12-zodiac installations blending Chinese folk paper cut art with Western cubist influences. These zodiacs, installed under the market’s arched roof since February 1, will relocate to Rotterdam’s Timmerhuis City Hall on February 10, remaining on view until February 28.
