Tom Lops, an experienced tour leader at TUI with approximately 30 trips to China, shares his personal experiences and practical tips for travelers, accompanied by stunning visuals of some of China’s most impressive locations, captured by himself.
In this session, Tom will take you on an inspiring journey through iconic destinations such as:
- The Silk Road, the ancient trade route that runs through the rugged landscapes of Gansu.
- Jiuzhaigou, the breathtaking nature reserve in Sichuan province, renowned for its crystal-clear lakes and waterfalls.
- Holland Village, a vacation village near Yancheng (250 kilometers north of Shanghai) built in honor of the Dutch hydraulic engineer Hendrik de Rijke, who helped China manage its water resources in the early 20th century. Protected species like the Père David’s deer and the red-crowned crane live in this area.

About Tom Lops
In 2008, Tom made his first journey to China, which turned out to be an unforgettable experience. Since then, he has returned frequently, continually captivated by the diversity of cultures, cities, and landscapes.
Since 2017, he has worked as a tour guide at TUI, leading countless groups through China. His extensive knowledge of the country, its culture, and local customs makes him the perfect guide for this session.
Tom has visited China approximately 30 times, not only as a tour guide but also by invitation from local cultural and tourism offices. He’s seen it all, from the historic Beijing in the north to the dynamic Hong Kong in the south, and from the modern Shanghai in the east to the desert cities along the ancient Silk Road in the west.
